V for Vendetta is a comic book series written by Alan Moore and illustrated mostly by David Lloyd, set in a dystopian future United Kingdom. A mysterious anarchist named V works to destroy the fascist government and profoundly affects the people he encounters.
The series is set in a near-future Britain when, after a limited nuclear war that left much of the world destroyed, an extreme fascist party has arisen called Norsefire. It is led by Leader Adam Susan who maintains control over the country through food shortages (arising during the nuclear winter), government-controlled media, secret police, a planned economy, and concentration camps for ethnic, political, and sexual minorities. When the series begins, political conflict has ended, the death camps have finished their work and have been closed, and the public is largely complacent, until "V" — an anarchist revolutionary dressed in a Guy Fawkes mask with an improbable array of abilities and resources — begins an elaborate, violent, and theatrical campaign to bring down the government.
2006 saw the release of the much anticipated movie. The movie was meant to be released in 2005 but was pushed forward because of the July 7th 2005 London Tube Bombings!
