The independent video game company MOB Games from the United States created the survival horror video game Poppy Playtime and published it. The player assumes the character of a former worker at the toy manufacturing company Playtime Co., who returns to the company’s defunct toy factory ten years after the company’s employees had vanished without a trace. The player moves through the game using a first-person perspective and is required to solve puzzles, some of which call for a tool known as the GrabPack, in order to advance while also avoiding a variety of foes.

On October 12, 2021, the first episode was made available on Steam for Microsoft Windows. Subsequently, on March 11, 2022, it was made available for Android and iOS. On May 5, the second episode was made available for Microsoft Windows; on August 15, it was made available for iOS and Android. After the first chapter, all subsequent chapters will be made available as downloadable content.

When the game was first released, the gameplay earned a lot of praise, but when the second part was released, it was met with a lot of criticism due to the numerous problems it had. In addition, the team of game developers at MOB Games came under fire after they announced that non-fungible tokens of in-game content will be included.

Poppy Playtime is a first-person survival horror game in which the player assumes the role of a former worker at Playtime Co. who goes to the defunct toy factory of that firm after receiving a letter from staff members who were believed to have vanished ten years earlier.

The player finds out that the factory is full with toys that are alive and hostile toward them,[2] and they immediately begin searching for a means to get out of the premises.

There are numerous VHS cassettes scattered about the factory, each of which provides a different and more in-depth description of the plot.

The player is required to solve a variety of puzzles throughout the course of the game in order to proceed. Some of these puzzles call for a device known as the GrabPack, which is a backpack that can be outfitted with two extendable hands.

These hands can be used to pull and reach objects from a far distance, conduct electricity, and access certain doors. In Chapter 2, the GrabPack can also be used to swing across gaps and, with a green hand obtained during gameplay, transfer electricity between sources.

Poppy Playtime was initially conceived of by game director Isaac Christopherson, who stated that people called the majority of independent horror games “Walking Simulators.” As a result, MOB Games had the inspiration to “create something with gameplay that doesn’t feel quite so run-of-the-mill, while still staying exciting, terrifying, and unique.” Poppy Playtime was initially funded through a campaign on the crowdfunding website Kickstarter.

In September of 2021, a trailer for the first chapter of the game was made available online. Following that, the chapter was made available for download on Steam for Microsoft Windows on October 12, and then it was made available for download on Android and iOS on March 11, 2022. After the first episode of the game was made available, the official stuff associated with it began to be distributed. This included items such as t-shirts, posters, and plush toys, in addition to official collectibles made by Youtooz.

After the first chapter, all subsequent chapters will be made available as downloadable content.

On February 22, 2022, a trailer for Chapter 2, titled Fly in a Web, was made available for viewing online. Subsequently, many teasers were provided to Twitter, including a teaser trailer on April 9 of that same year. The first chapter was made available for free as part of the buildup to the publication of the second chapter.

The following day, on May 5, the second chapter was made available for Microsoft Windows, and then two months later, on August 15, it was made available for iOS and Android. It is expected that the second chapter will be three times as long as the first chapter. On August 6, a preview for Chapter 3 was made available, and the full chapter is planned to be published in the year 2023.
