  1. One Night in Miami (2021)

A directorial debut by Regina King, this movie is set in the time of the peak civil rights movement in the US. Four successful black men are out in the streets of Miami, on the night of February 25, 1964, discussing what it’s like being a successful black man and what their responsibilities are. But guess who these four black men are?

They are none other than Malcolm X, Jim Brown, Cassius Clay, and Sam Cooke. The movie is a cross between the American identity and black identity and what happens when the two have to be taken together in the given time and circumstances. Nonetheless, the movie is not short of absolutely cracking and delightful moments, thanks to the amazing direction of King.

  1. Charade (1963)

Audrey Hepburn and Cary Grant alone are reason enough for anyone to jump straight on this movie any day of the week. The twisting plot is about Reggie (Hepburn) who is planning to divorce her husband Charles and happens to meet a charming man, Andrew (Grant) in Paris. After a brief romance, Reggie returns home and finds out that her husband was killed.

She later learns that her husband had fought in WW2 and had stolen a huge amount of wealth, which he had promised to share with 3 others. Now those three are in town to take their share and it’s on Reggie to sort things out. When she again meets Andrew, things become more complicated until none of the characters or audience knows what to believe.

  1. 13 Assassins

This super hit Japanese movie is a must-watch for all action genre lovers. 13 Assassins is adapted from The Thirteen Assassins, its namesake movie released in 1963. The director of this movie, Takashi Miike, has made over a hundred movies but this one stands out. 13 Assassins is a stylish and modern throwback to the classic samurai story of the mid-twentieth century.

The story of both movies is loosely based on a real-life event that happened in 1844. Twelve samurai along with a hunter planned to assassinate the leader of a powerful clan, the Akashi clan. Matsudaira Naritsugu is the leader of Akashi who is known to be evil and corrupt and these 13 have taken it upon themselves to bring justice to all affectees.

  1. Serpico (1973)

If you’re a fan of Al Pacino (well, who isn’t?), his debut in Hollywood is a must-watch movie. Serpico is about the life of Frank Serpico who is a New York police agent. He discovers that in the local police force, there is a line of corrupt officers who are working day and night against the police norms and causing lawlessness in the city.

He then informs the higher-ups in order to get rid of the corrupt ones. But things take a turn and his dishonest comrades suddenly turn against him. He then sets on a journey that brings death at every turn he takes. It is one of the most exciting street dramas ever made and stays exciting throughout the movie.

  1. Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy (2011)

This movie has a stellar cast with names like Gary Oldman, John Hurt, Tom Hardy, Colin Firth, Toby Jones, and Benedict Cumberbatch. This espionage movie is about a British spy who has been given the responsibility to take out a mole from within the intelligence services. The movie is based on le Carre’s novel of the same name and the movie really does stay true to the original material.

Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy is set in the time of peak cold war so you can imagine the topic of espionage is very exciting to be made in these times. It’s one of those movies in which you doubt everyone being the mole but when it is revealed, well you’re beyond shocked.

Conclusion

Amazon Prime is all set to sort out your evening with these and many other amazing movies. So when you’re tired and just want to escape with an amazing piece of media, resort to these movies.
