Horror Movies to Watch This Halloween

Horror Movies to Watch – welcome back, your lovely faces, to a brand new video here on the channel. Well, it’s October, and it’s spook-your-mama season, always a great time if you’re a horror movie lover. This month, horror movie enthusiasts are actually getting quite a lot of good stuff. Here are some horror movies releasing over the next four weeks. In this blog post, I’m going to highlight some of the ones I’m looking forward to. Hopefully, some of these will pique your interest as well, so let’s dive straight in!

Horror Movies to Watch This Halloween

Crackcoon: The Horror Comedy of the Season

The first film on my list is Crackcoon. I can’t show you the actual photo that Bloody Disgusting has down for it because it will be an instant locked video, but it’s a screambox original horror comedy. It’s fittingly described as Rocket Raccoon meets Cocaine Bear. That’s all you need to know! When a synthetically altered street drug is discarded in the woods by a dealer during a car chase with the police, a fallout provokes something nothing less than horrific. An innocent raccoon eats it, transforming into a nightmarish killing machine straight from the bowels of hell. This is one film I cannot wait to see, and it’s actually out today, October 1st.

Hold Your Breath: A Dust Storm Thriller

Next up is Hold Your Breath, releasing on October 3rd on Hulu. Here in the UK, it’ll probably be on Star, which is the channel on Disney Plus where all the Hulu stuff comes. It stars the always remarkable Sarah Paulson, along with Ibon Moss-Bachrach, Amiah Miller, and Annaleigh Ashford. This Hulu horror thriller from directors Carrie Krause and William Joins takes place amidst the horrific dust storms of 1930s Oklahoma. The plot follows a woman convinced that a sinister presence is threatening her family. With Sarah Paulson leading the cast, this is one film I am eagerly anticipating.

Salem’s Lot: A Classic Returns

We also have Salem’s Lot. Here in the UK, I believe this is getting a limited release in cinemas, while in America, it’s going straight to HBO Max. The long-awaited adaptation of Stephen King’s Salem’s Lot, directed by Gary Dauberman, is finally seeing a release after a lengthy delay. The plot sees an author returning to his hometown, only to find it under the sway of a bloodthirsty vampire. This new take on the vampire classic is set to stream just in time for Halloween. If you haven’t seen the previous adaptations or read the book, avoid the trailer as it gives away nearly every big moment.

Spin the Bottle: A Supernatural Nightmare

Now, this one has me intrigued. Featuring Justin Long as a local authority savvy to the paranormal, Spin the Bottle turns a party game into a supernatural nightmare. When a group of friends play spin the bottle in a house marked by a brutal massacre, they unknowingly unleash an evil spirit and start dying in terrifying ways. This just sounds like a fun, grab-a-beer-and-popcorn kind of movie. I will definitely be watching this one.

V/H/S/85: A Return to Found Footage Horror

Alongside Terrifier 3, V/H/S/85 is my go-to pick from this list. The VHS series had a mixed reception, but it came back strong with a recent installment. V/H/S/85 features a fantastic cast, including Mike Flanagan’s wife Kate Siegel, and Justin Long. If you haven’t seen the trailer, just watch it for one shot alone—it’s absolutely insane. This is at the top of my list, right alongside Terrifier 3.

The Platform 2: A Vertical Prison Revisited

Next, we have the sequel to The Platform, releasing on October 4th on Netflix. The first film introduced a unique vertical prison system where food is distributed from top to bottom, with over 200 levels. The sequel introduces a mysterious figure who has established a new law in this system. The first film had its share of horror moments, and I’m eager to see how this sequel elevates the horror.

Crazy House: A 90s Sitcom Gone Wild

If you’re a Nick Frost fan, Crazy House is going to get people talking. Releasing on October 4th, this Dutch directorial debut polarized Sundance audiences with its over-the-top lampooning of the 90s sitcom era. Nick Frost stars as a father who must save his 90s sitcom family from Russian home invaders. The trailer looks absolutely batshit insane, and I can’t wait to see it.

Hellboy: The Crooked Man

The brand new Hellboy movie is coming to video on demand in America on October 8th. It’s already been released in UK cinemas, although I haven’t seen it yet. I do enjoy the Hellboy series, and while the last one was a bit underwhelming, I’m hopeful for this one. The new film, The Crooked Man, is set in the 1950s, so we’ll see if it delivers.

Terrifier 3: The Ultimate Horror Experience

For me, Terrifier 3 is the crème de la crème of horror movies this month. It’s my number one film to see, and the buzz around it is incredible. People are calling it the most violent and grotesque film they’ve ever seen. It releases on October 11th, and I’ve already got my ticket. If it’s as good as number two, I’m all in for it.

Smile 2: A Unique Sequel

The week after Terrifier 3, we have Smile 2. The first film was unique, and the sequel looks promising. The trailer makes it look amazing, and I hope it lives up to the hype. Otherwise, it might disappoint a lot of fans.

Azrael: A Modern-Day Scream Queen

Another film making waves is Azrael, starring Samara Weaving, a modern-day scream queen. It releases on Shudder on October 25th. Directed by E.L. Katz, this action horror movie follows a devout female-led community hunting down a young woman who has escaped her imprisonment. The trailer looks absolutely batshit crazy, and with Samara Weaving in the lead, it’s a must-watch.

Time Cut: A Time-Traveling Slasher

To round out the list, we have Time Cut, coming to Netflix. The writer and director of the slasher comedy Freaky reunite for this time-traveling slasher movie, described as Back to the Future meets Scream. In this film, a teenage girl travels back to the early 2000s to stop a vicious killer from murdering her sister. With its unique premise, it’s definitely one to watch.

That’s my list of films I’m looking forward to this month. I’ll leave the full list below for you guys on the web link if you want to see what’s on there. Let us know what you think in the comments below. Which ones are you excited to see? Are you going to be watching Terrifier 3 and V/H/S/85? Those are my top picks.
