Powers
Flight, superhuman strength, speed, and durability are possessed by the character. Additionally, they are an expert in hand-to-hand combat. Currently, they have the Xandarian Worldmind downloaded, which grants them almost limitless control over the Nova Force. This allows them to project and absorb energy. They also have the ability to manipulate gravitational forces and create wormholes.
The character’s creation dates back to 1966 when writer Marv Wolfman introduced them in issue 3 of his fanzine, Super Adventures. Originally known as The Star, they were an alien doctor named Denteen who stumbled upon a spaceship containing pills that granted them a different superhuman ability every five minutes. However, in issue 6, Wolfman and writer Len Wein revamped the character’s story. Now, they were a prisoner named Kraken Roo who eventually becomes the superhero Black Nova.
Years later, Wolfman joined Marvel Comics as a writer and collaborated with an artist on further developing the character.
