Spider-Man: Homecoming is an American superhero film that was released in 2017 and is based on the character of Spider-Man that appears in Marvel Comics. The film was co-produced by Columbia Pictures and Marvel Studios and was distributed by Sony Pictures Releasing. It is the 16th film overall in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the second reboot of the Spider-Man film franchise (MCU). Jon Watts was the director of the movie, and it was based on a script that was written by three different writing teams: Watts and Christopher Ford, Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers, and Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley. Alongside the likes of Michael Keaton, Jon Favreau, Gwyneth Paltrow, Zendaya, Donald Glover, Jacob Batalon, Laura Harrier, Tony Revolori, Bokeem Woodbine, Tyne Daly, Marisa Tomei, and Robert Downey Jr., Tom Holland plays the role of Peter Parker / Spider-Man in the new Marvel film. Peter Parker struggles to maintain his identity as Spider-Man while also attending high school, all while fending off the Vulture, in the 2017 film Spider-Man: Homecoming (Keaton).
In February of 2015, Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures Entertainment came to an agreement to share the film rights for Spider-Man. This allowed the character to be incorporated into the already existing Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). In June of the following year, Holland was selected to play the title role, and Watts was brought on board to direct. After this, the employment of Daley and Goldstein took place not much longer after.
The title of the movie was unveiled in April of 2016, and more cast members, including Downey Jr. in his Marvel Cinematic Universe character of Tony Stark/Iron Man, were announced at the same time. The principal photography began in June 2016 at Pinewood Atlanta Studios in Fayette County, Georgia. After that, filming proceeded in Atlanta, Los Angeles, and New York City. During filming, which came to an end in October 2016 in Berlin, the identities of the other screenwriters were disclosed. The production crew worked hard to set this film apart from the other Spider-Man movies that have come before it.
As a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), Spider-Man: Homecoming had its world premiere in Hollywood on June 28, 2017, and it was made available in theatres across the United States on July 7. With a worldwide total of more than $880 million, Spider-Man: Homecoming is the second-most successful picture in the Spider-Man franchise and the sixth-highest grossing film of 2017.
It was praised for its humorous tone, its concentration on Parker’s life during his senior year of high school, and the performances, particularly those of Holland and Keaton. Spider-Man: No Way Home (2017) and Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019) are the titles of the films that continue the franchise (2021). Sony and Marvel Studios are hard at work on the first instalment of a brand-new live-action picture trilogy.
