Naughty Dog’s Last of Us Franchise Gets the Television Treatment

It was announced today that Naughty Dog’s Last of Us franchise is being adapted for television. The Last of Us is set in a post-apocalyptic world where society has been decimated by a virulent fungal infection. The story follows the journey of Joel and Ellie, two survivors who must rely on each other to make their way through a hostile world.

The Last of Us television series will be executive produced by Craig Mazin, the creator of HBO’s Chernobyl, and Neil Druckmann, the creative director of Naughty Dog.

“We’re thrilled to be working with Craig and Neil to bring the world of The Last of Us to television,” said Carolyn Strauss, President, Naughty Dog. “This is an incredibly special project for us and we can’t wait to share it with everyone.”

The series will feature Joel (Pedro Pascal), a smuggler who is tasked with guiding the teenage Ellie (Bella Ramsey) across a post-apocalyptic United States. The computer game with the same name was developed by Naughty Dog in 2013 and released under the same name. There will also be a character named Tommy, played by Gabriel Luna and a former soldier. Tommy is Joel’s younger brother.

The series, which is reported to be the longest-running and most expensive television production in Canadian history, was shot in Calgary, Alberta.
