BLACK WIDOW FILM: MAY 1, 2020

Black Widow is the next Marvel superhero film based on the Marvel Comics character of the same name. Produced by Marvel Studios and distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, it is intended to be the twenty-fourth film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). The film is directed by Cate Shortland, written by Jac Schaeffer and Ned Benson, and stars Scarlett Johansson as Natasha Romanoff / Black Widow, alongside David Harbour, Florence Pugh, O-T Fagbenle, and Rachel Weisz.

Marvel and Johansson expressed interest in a potential solo film several times over the following years, before development progressed with the hiring of Schaeffer and Shortland in 2018. Benson was hired and further casting took place in early 2019. Filming began in May, taking place in Norway and at Pinewood Studios in England. Production is expected to last until September.

Black Widow is set to be released in the United States on May 1, 2020.


THE FALCON AND THE WINTER SOLDIER TV: AUTUMN 2020

At the end of October 2018, Malcolm Spellman was hired to write a limited series that would focus on Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson  Falcon and Sebastian Stan’s Bucky Barnes  Winter Soldier. Mackie and Stan had both previously expressed interest in starring in an MCU spin-off film together, with Stan comparing the potential idea to buddy comedy films like Midnight Run (1988) and 48 Hrs. 

The series was officially announced and titled in April 2019, with Mackie and Stan confirmed to be starring. It is expected to start filming in October 2019, debuting within the first year of the streaming service. In May 2019, it was announced to consist of six episodes directed by Kari Skogland, with Emily VanCamp and Daniel Brühl set to reprise their roles as Sharon Carter and Baron Helmut Zemo. In July 2019, TheWrap reported that Derek Kolstad will also write on the series.The plot of the series will take place following the events of Avengers: Endgame. THE ETERNALS FILM: NOVEMBER 6, 2020

Marvel will start to explore some of the most powerful characters in the comic book universe. The incredible cast includes Angelina Jolie as Thena, Salma Hayek as the leader Ajax, Richard Madden as Ikarus, Kumail Nanjiani as Kingo Sunen, Bryan Tyree as Phastos, Lia McHugh as Sprite, Don Lee as Gilgamesh (the forgotten one), and Lauren Ridloff as Makkar.

The Eternals is a new Marvel superhero film based on the Marvel Comics race of the same name. In April 2018, Kevin Feige announced that a film based on the Eternals had begun development, with Matthew and Ryan Firpo hired to write the script for the project in May 2018. By late-September, Marvel hired Zhao to direct the film. The cast was officially announced at San Diego Comic-Con in July 2019, with filming beginning at that time in Pinewood Studios, England.

SHANG-CHI AND THE LEGEND OF THE TEN RINGS FILM: FEBRUARY 12, 2021

Destin Daniel Cretton will the film which pits Shang-Chi against the ‘real’ Mandarin (NOT Iron Man 3 Mandarin), who will be played by Tony Leung. Shang-Chi leading man Simu Liu was only cast on Tuesday.

WANDA AND VISION TV: SPRING 2021

A limited tv series, which is  expected to follow Elizabeth Olsen’s Wanda Maximoff / Scarlet Witch. By the end of October, Paul Bettany’s Vision was expected to play a large role in the series, which would focus on their relationship. Jac Schaeffer was hired to write the first episode and serve as showrunner in January 2019.

The series was officially announced and titled in April 2019, with Olsen and Bettany confirmed to be starring.Filming is expected to start in late 2019. Teyonah Parris will appear as Monica Rambeau. The character was previously portrayed by Akira Akbar, as a child in Captain Marvel. The plot takes place following Avengers: Endgame and will lead into Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, while exploring where the character’s alias comes from. WandaVision will debut in early 2021

Marvel Studios Phase 4 – Kevin Feige Movies TV Series – Comic Con 2019 – LOKI TV: SPRING 2021

This is one of the most highly anticipated of all. Tom Hiddleston is back as the Asgardian trickster. An early image confirmed there will be elements of time travel. The show is expected to explore the fractured timeline of the Loki who stole the Tessaract in Avengers: Endgame and created a whole new parallel dimension.

Disney CEO Bob Iger confirmed in November that the series was in development with Hiddleston returning to reprise his role. Michael Waldron was hired as the series’ showrunner in February 2019.Loki will debut in the early 2021. During the 2019 San Diego Comic-Con, it was revealed that the series will follow the version of Loki who stole the Space Stone in 2012 during the events of Avengers: Endgame

DOCTOR STRANGE IN THE MULTIVERSE OF MADNESS FILM: MAY 7, 2021

This will be set after Endgame and is being billed as Marvel’s first-ever ‘horror’ movie. If you thought the first Strange outing was trippy, this will be all that with added scares! Scott Derrickson will direct and is bringing in Scarlett Witch to really up the magical ante. Excitingly, we are being told the film will directly overlap with the Wanda and Vision Disney+ TV show as Marvel finally started to integrate its MCU and wider universes.  

In July 2019, the sequel was announced as Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness with a release date of May 7, 2021. Feige and Derrickson revealed that the sequel would have more of a horror tone than the first film, that Elizabeth Olsen would reprise her MCU role of Wanda Maximoff / Scarlet Witch, and that her Disney+ series WandaVision would tie-into the events of the film.

This is a mouthwatering prospect and will include a massive number of current Marvel stars with Hayley Atwell confirmed to kick it all off, alongside Jeffrey Wright as The Watcher.

In March 2019, it was reported that an animated series based on Marvel Comics’ What If comic book series was coming to Disney+. The series’ stories will not affect the continuity of the MCU. Each episode will examine a different crucial moment in the MCU’s history and explore different outcomes, with the actors from the films reprising their roles for the show. The series will star Jeffrey Wright as the voice of Uatu the Watcher and will debut in mid 2021

The presentation at San Diego Comic Con 2019  included Jeremy Renner introducing an animated short showing Clint Barton training a young Kate Bishop.

In April 2019, a limited series focused on Jeremy Renner’s Clint Barton / Hawkeye was reported to be in development, with the plot involving Barton passing the mantle of Hawkeye to the character Kate Bishop. The series was officially announced at the 2019 San Diego Comic Con, with the plot taking place following the events of Avengers: Endgame. Hawkeye will premiere in late 2021

THOR LOVE AND THUNDER FILM: NOVEMBER 5, 2021

This one was packed with surprises. Natalie Portman stunned the crowd when she came on stage and director Taiki Waititi kneeled and symbolically handed her Thor’s hammer. Chris Hemsworth’s Thor handed his throne to Tessa Thompson in Endgame and it seems he will explore his own identity away from his heritage, allowing the MCU to introduce Portman’s Jane as Female Thor. There is also talk Valkyrie’s sexuality will finally be addressed in a rumoured triangle with Thor and Female Thor…

BLADE, GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL 3, BLACK PANTHER 2, FANTASTIC FOUR, MUTANTS, CAPTAIN MARVEL 2 FILMS: TBC

These films are confirmed but have no release date yet. The big news is the casting of Oscar-winner Mahershala Ali as the vampire antihero Blade.

AVENGERS 5 FILM: 

Kevin Feige confirmed there would be no overarching Avengers movie, to allow all the new storylines and characters to find their place.
