Pluto Winner of Manga Awards

Naoki Urasawa x Osamu Tezuka
PLUTO winner of manga awards around the world, finally gets its first animated adaptation!
Take a sneak peek at this globally anticipated work!

Naoki Urasawa is the author and illustrator of the Pluto manga series, which was published in Japan. Between September 2003 and April 2009, it was published in Shogakukan’s seinen manga magazine Big Comic Original, and the individual chapters were later compiled into a total of eight tankbon volumes. The narrative arc known as “The Greatest Robot on Earth” (, Chij Saidai no Robotto) from Osamu Tezuka’s Astro Boy serves as the inspiration for this anime series, which takes its name from the primary antagonist in that story arc.

Urasawa reimagines the plot as a tense whodunit in which the protagonist, Gesicht, is a Europol robot detective who is tasked with unravelling the mystery behind a series of murders involving both robots and humans.

The series is said to have been co-written by Takashi Nagasaki. Macoto Tezuka, Osamu Tezuka’s son, served as the show’s supervisor, and Tezuka Productions is acknowledged in the credits as having provided collaboration.

Pluto: Urasawa x Tezuka is the name given to the English-language version of the series that was licenced and distributed by Viz Media in North America. In 2023, Netflix is going to launch the first episode of an original anime web series that will be animated by Studio M2. The series will be produced by Genco and Tezuka Productions.

Around 8.5 million copies of Pluto were sold, and it won a number of accolades, including the eighth Tezuka Osamu Culture Award.

Pluto was a huge success, both critically and commercially.

Pluto accompanies the robot detective Gesicht of Europol as he investigates a string of murders involving robots and humans that have occurred all over the world. Each of the victims has had an object that resembles horns pushed into or positioned by their heads. Pluto watches as Gesicht works to solve the case. As evidence points to a robot being responsible for the killings, the case becomes even more mysterious because this would be the first time in eight years that a robot has been responsible for the death of a person. The seven most powerful robots in the world, those that are the most technologically advanced and have the potential to become weapons of mass destruction, appear to be the targets of the killer, and the deaths of the humans are connected to the protection of international laws that give robots equal rights.
