Star Wars Galaxys Edge theme park First Look Inside – Disneyland Resorts
Star Wars Galaxys Edge theme park will let fans pilot the Millennium Falcon spaceship and even take on Kylo Ren! Folks at Disney have distributed a new behind-the-scenes video of the Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge experience, which shares more information about the forthcoming theme park.
In the video, Walt Disney Imagineering’s Creative Exec Scott Trowbridge said visitors would be able to “immerse themselves into the story and join in the fun with them in the Star Wars universe”
The Millennium Falcon: Smuggler’s Run ride at the Star Wars Galaxys Edge theme park will permit visitors to literally pilot the iconic ship, or even take on the roles of its gunners or flights engineers. The exec described the Rise Of The Resistance ride “invites you to be recruited by the resistance, to take a stand against the First Order, and take on Kylo Ren. Should you survive all that, and you get back to your home planet, you will be a hero of the resistance and celebrated throughout the galaxy.”
He added the latter ride was the “most epic attraction we’ve ever built.” You can watch the behind-the-scenes video above.
Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge will open at Disneyland in Anaheim, California in summer 2019, while it will follow at DisneyWorld in Orlando, Florida in autumn 2019.
This is Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, the most ambitious land ever added to a Walt Disney theme park.
Barron’s recently spent an afternoon touring Galaxy’s Edge, a first for the press this late in construction, with executives from construction, operations, and “imagineering,” or creative design, along with a Star Wars expert in a holiday R2-D2 sweater. Here are there first impressions.
Star Wars Galaxys Edge theme park will open at Disneyland in Anaheim, California in summer 2019, while it will follow at Disneyworld in Orlando, Florida in autumn 2019. Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, is the most ambitious land ever added to a Walt Disney theme park but that is sure to have queues for years.
Visitors will join the world of Galaxy’s Edge through one of three entrances near the park’s Fantasyland and Frontierland themed areas to ensure that the first sight of Galaxy’s Edge is a carefully framed, cinematic view.
Galaxys Edge Land brings to life a specific Black Spire Outpost on the planet Batuu. Know that one? It is near the outer reaches of the Star Wars galaxy. In Solo: A Star Wars Story, it is mentioned in passing, not seen the movie so I can’t say. Also mentioned in a Star Wars 2018 novel called, Thrawn: Alliances. This is not a coincidence and gives visitors a simple path into the storytelling regardless of their experience with the movies, merchandise or cartoons.
Fans once they see the Millennium Falcon star ship will drool and some of the more hardcore will feel as though they remember Oga’s Cantina [I don’t]. The boozer they are trying to recreate was in the 1977 New Hope film and was on Tatooine. Those that are kids, i.e. aged five to 15 who can’t tell the difference between an Ewok and Chewbacca, will find be distracted by a deep-space haven for traders and bad peoples with much to explore, including an open-air market and two immersive “attractions,” as Disney calls its rides. We like to call them experiences but anyway!
The one and only Millennium Falcon: Smuggler’s Run ride
For this experience a pirate called Hondo Ohnaka engineered a deal with the Wookie, Chewbacca to be able to use the Millennium Falcon, and the visitor [you, me] is/are the pilot. The ride’s entrance will be oh so covertly and subtly marked, so the look of the land is not disturbed. Even casual fans of the films will find the ship’s interior familiar. The 3-D chess board where Chewbacca lost his cool whilst playing a game against R2-D2 is even there.
Visitors will navigate the ship in groups of six [imagine the queues if it were any less] at Star Wars Galaxys Edge theme park and will be shown live results of their actions, even like knocking down a spire while taking off. Get this; the flight will be different on every visit. For example, after a ride, you might decide to rest at Oga’s Cantina for a snack or drink and be told something like, “The boss isn’t happy about how you brought the ship back.” This is all to make it an interactive, story-building attraction. You can opt in to or out of it throughout the land.
Rise of the Resistance
The Resistance has re-purposed as a base for operations against the First Order at the Star Wars Galaxys Edge theme park. Waiting for visitors will snake through highly themed visuals and interiors that will depict rooms that are run down. Some “lucky” guests may be “captured” at one point and ordered along the route by the enemy. Then, they will be able to make their escape aboard a trackless troop transport. You will see scenes including a storm trooper formation and even one featuring the menacing Kylo Ren. Could it be a recreation of the interrogation scene from Star Wars: The Force Awakens? While you are in the transport you will avoid and evade simple Star Wars war machines, like AT-AT Walkers from The Empire Strikes Back.
Oga’s Cantina
The cantina will work for the first time in Disneyland that will serve alcohol! Yes! I want to drink with a Jawa! What stories they must have! Lol! The cantina is small and is likely to be popular at the Star Wars Galaxys Edge theme park. To maximise capacity and keep visitors from overstaying their welcome, most guests will have to stand. There will be a tiny amount of booths with seating around the outer edge of the restaurant; no decision has been made yet on whether or how these can be reserved. An intricate tangle of tubes and vessels behind the bar might make some drinks appear to flow from the ceiling. Barrons have heard a mention of a Fuzzy Tauntaun drink, named after their furry snow lizards namesakes ridden by Solo and Luke in The Empire Strikes Back, although it’s unclear if that’s a casual drink or a planned one, and the menu is still being decided.
Visitors will be able to order blue milk at Galaxy’s Edge, recalling the secretion of a bantha—a large, hairy animal with spiral horns—drank by Luke Skywalker in the first film. This will be a nondairy drink.

Scott Trowbridge said
“That when people come to star wars galaxy’s edge and they experience it for the first time, that this place they’re walking through and the characters, they’re seeing the beasts and aliens and droids puts them in a position where they get themselves over to the moment to the story and play with us in the world of Star Wars”
Carrie Beck, VP Lucasfilm Story Group said “It will be jaw dropping, an incredibly emotional to walk into the land for the first time to actually be standing there amongst the buildings amongst the ships and have this feeling that it is all real that has been brought to life and it is right there in front of you. It’s overwhelming.
Trowbridge went on to say “The experience on Millennium Falcon. Smuggler’s run puts you straight in that cockpit right behind the controls. Whether you’re one of the pilots have gunners or one of the engineers that are keeping the ship operating. It is going to be an intense, super fun experience on the fastest ship in the galaxy.
I think any great story has tension and conflict and it’s not star wars without the war, so it was absolutely fundamental that the story of the land actually finds the guest between the resistance and the first order says Carrie Beck.
Trowbridge also said. “One of the experiences that I’m sure every visitor to star wars galaxy’s edge is going to love is the most epic attraction we’ve ever built. Star wars Rise of the Resistance, and this attraction invites you to be a recruit of the resistance to stand up against the first order and you even come face to face with Kylo. Gets exciting to think about. This is only the beginning and to think about how this land will be living and breathing and evolving. There is nothing actually more meaningful and more special than to provide a place for people well to experienced star wars with their family for decades to come.
