About The Sandman Netflix
Neil Gaiman is the author of the comic book titled “The Sandman,” which is published by DC Comics. Sam Kieth, Mike Dringenberg, Jill Thompson, Shawn McManus, Marc Hempel, Bryan Talbot, and Michael Zulli are some of the artists who contributed to this publication. Covers were created by Dave McKean, and lettering was done by Todd Klein. The first series ran for a total of 75 issues, beginning in January 1989 and ending in March 1996. After issue No. 47, it was moved under DC’s Vertigo imprint. After Vertigo’s departure in 2020, reprints have been released under DC’s Black Label banner. Beginning with issue No. 47, it was placed under DC’s Vertigo imprint.
Dream, also known as Morpheus and by a variety of other names, serves as the story’s primary protagonist and is one of the seven Endless. Destiny, Death, Desire, Despair, Delirium (previously Delight), and Destruction (also known as ‘The Prodigal’) are the other Endless that exist. The show is well-known for Gaiman’s typical use of anthropomorphic personification of various metaphysical forces. In addition, the show’s horror setting inside the DC Universe blends mythology and history. The Sandman is a story about stories, specifically about how Morpheus, the Lord of Dreams, is kidnapped and how he later discovers that change is sometimes unavoidable after his ordeal. The Sandman is published as a series of ten trade paperbacks, a recolored five-volume Absolute hardcover version with slipcase, a three-volume omnibus edition, a black-and-white Annotated edition, and as a digital download. It was Vertigo’s flagship product for a long time.
In addition to Maus, Watchmen, and The Dark Knight Returns, The Sandman was one of the first few graphic novels to ever make it onto the New York Times Best Seller list. It has received widespread acclaim for its quality as a work of literature. It was ranked No. 46 on Entertainment Weekly’s list of the “100 finest reads from 1983 to 2008,” and it was one of just five graphic novels to make the cut. Since its debut, the series has had a significant impact on both the fantasy subgenre and the graphic novel medium, and it is frequently recognised as one of the best graphic novels of all time. Norman Mailer once referred to it as “a comic strip for intellectuals.”
The Sandman has been adapted into a number of different films as well as television shows. Warner Bros. made the announcement in 2013 that David S. Goyer would be producing a film version of the comic book series starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt as part of their future Vertigo picture slate; however, Gordon-Levitt backed out of the project in 2016. Since the beginning of the year 2019, an adaptation has been in the works for Netflix. A full-cast audio drama adaptation of the first three volumes of the series was made available exclusively on Audible in the year 2020. The story was narrated by Gaiman, and it was dramatised and directed by Dirk Maggs. James McAvoy played the role of Morpheus in the adaptation.

About DC Comics
DC Comics, Inc., also known simply as DC, is a comic book publishing company based in the United States. It is the flagship unit of DC Entertainment, which is a division of Warner Bros. Discovery.
DC Comics is one of the most well-known and longest-running comic book publishers in the United States. The company published their first comic book under the DC label in 1937. The vast majority of its publications are set in the fictitious DC Universe and feature a wide variety of heroic characters that have been ingrained in popular culture, such as Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman. It is also recognised for producing some of the most famous and well-known teams, such as the Teen Titans, the Suicide Squad, the Justice Society of America, and the Justice League. In addition, there are a significant number of notorious supervillains in this reality, including characters like the Joker, Lex Luthor, Cheetah, and Darkseid. The company has published works that are not connected to the DC Universe, such as Watchmen, V for Vendetta, and Fables, in addition to a large number of publications released under their alternate banner Vertigo.
Together, DC Comics and its longtime major competitor Marvel Comics (which was acquired in 2009 by The Walt Disney Company, which is also the primary competitor of Warner Bros. Discovery) held approximately 70 percent of the American comic book market in 2017, although this number may give a distorted view since graphic novels are excluded from the calculation. DC is the second largest publisher in the world, behind only Viz Media, and Marvel is the third largest publisher when total book sales are considered.
