Three Thousand Years of Longing Trailer 2 (2022) w/ Idris Elba

George Miller is directing the dark fantasy picture Three Thousand Years of Longing, which is set to be released in 2022. Miller and Augusta Gore are credited with writing the script, which is an adaptation of A. S. Byatt’s short tale “The Djinn in the Nightingale’s Eye” from 1994. Idris Elba and Tilda Swinton are two of the film’s stars.

The world premiere of Three Thousand Years of Longing took place on May 20, 2022 at the Cannes Film Festival. The film was released in the United States on August 26, 2022 by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (via United Artists Releasing). The film’s release in Australia is scheduled to take place on September 1, 2022 by Roadshow Entertainment. Critics had a variety of reactions to the movie they saw.

Three Thousand Years of Longing Plot

Alithea Binnie is a British academic who lives alone and suffers from weird hallucinations of demonic beings. These hallucinations occur at random times.

Alithea makes a purchase of an ancient bottle when she is in Istanbul. After returning home, she opens the bottle and accidently frees a Djinn that was previously contained within it. Alithea argues that wishing is a mistake, and she accuses the Djinn of being a trickster.

The Djinn promises to grant Alithea three wishes if they are exactly what her heart desires, but Alithea refuses the offer. The Djinn responds to her charge by telling Alithea three different stories about how he came to be imprisoned in the bottle. The final story has such an effect on Alithea that she expresses a desire for the Djinn and herself to develop romantic feelings for one another.

Following that, both the Djinn and Alithea relocate to London at the same time. Alithea will one day realise that the Djinn are gradually deteriorating as a result of the affects that cell tower and satellite transmissions are having on them. Alithea is successful in freeing the Djinn so that he can go back to “The World of Djinn” by making use of her third and final desire.

She had previously used her second wish to restore the seriously ill Djinn’s ability to communicate with her. Alithea was under the impression that she would never see the now-fit Djinn again, but he paid her a surprise visit after three years and continued to do so occasionally after that.
